Defining Concepts, Cultivating a Sense for Design, Demonstrating Results
Substance with Style and Style with Substance

The question remains whether AI is actually okay or not. Hopefully, concept software will become more affordable and intuitive through it. Designing a car or a piece of architecture is simply very complex and time-consuming, and not everyone can afford the Adobe package or even CAD. Unfortunately, ChatGPT and similar tools still tend to produce very idiosyncratic solutions, making the software difficult to use for a focused vision. Sometimes, the software even does the exact opposite of what you asked for — even when you’ve defined it clearly.
You can arrive at results quickly, but in most cases it still requires a lot of patience and often leads to frustration. Asking the same thing twice, when something isn’t quite right yet, can sometimes lead to completely different outcomes. Occasionally, there are pleasant surprises — but then the question is: is it still your concept? And should it be? One could imagine saying: “Give me variations in different materials …” — which would be a very natural feature of truly good software.
Will it then become easier to be a famous designer? Perhaps, after the worldwide photography hype, there will also be a worldwide design hype — leaving a great deal of talent invisible once again. There are “only” so many cars or so many buildings the world actually needs. And if overly “free” AI software also brings too much random talent to the surface — while I’ve noticed that, for example, ChatGPT-5 still doesn’t really understand what is truly good (with many “appalling” results appearing) — and AI is able to do everything completely autonomously, then what will be left for people?

Knowing what is good and what is bad is almost half the task. Knowing what needs to be improved, and how to define what must be done and changed — that is design. Apart from sketching and having a brilliant idea, of course.
